She was a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Nursing and was employed more than 20 years as a registered nurse at Topeka State Hospital. She lived in Burlingame since 1952. She was born Nov. 22, 1911, at Rossville, the daughter of William and Anna Hejtmanek Kovar. She lived in the Rossville-Delia area where she attended schools and church. Mrs. Terrill was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church and the Sunshine Extension Homemakers Unit. She hybridized irises for over 30 years and was a member of several international iris societies. She had won several bakery prizes and was the second-place winner in the 1953 Pillsbury Bake-Off. She was married to Joe Terrill Feb. 8, 1942, in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Dr. Jerry Terrill, Houston, Tex., a sister, Lucille Kovar, Topeka, and a grandchild. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Burlingame Federated Church. Graveside services were at 1:30 p.m. in the Czech-Moravian Cemetery at Delia. She was born December 15, 1901, at Burr Oak, the daughter of John and Edna Davis Fishburn. Mrs. Terrill and her husband operated a bakery at Republic from 1929 until 1936: a grocery store at Randall from 1936 to 1946: and a farm near Ionia from 1946 until they retired and moved to Rossville in 1963. She was a member of Rossville United Methodist Church, the Friendly Circle of the church, and Independent Order of Odd Fellows Auxiliary at Ionia. She was married to Robert Allen Terrill on October 8, 1921, at Burr Oak. died June 25, 1977. A son, Lawrence Terrill, died in 1944. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Duley, Mission, Tex., and Mrs. Glenda Peters, St. Marys; a son, R. Lloyd Terrill, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Avis Powell, Silver Spring, Md., Mrs. Ruth Jackson and Mrs. Paige Evans, both of Loveland, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services were at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church. | |

He was a stockman and farmer south of here. Mr. Teske was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Duluth. He was preceded in death by two daughters. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lenora Teske, Onaga; a son, Dennis Teske, Onaga; a daughter, Jolene Teske, Kansas City; five brothers, Lawrence Teske, Delia, Roland Teske, Tecumseh, Nebr., Irwin Teske, Daytona Beach, Fla., Glenn Teske, Fulton, Ill., and Franklin Teske, Onaga; a sister, Mrs. Edna Wieters, Abilene; and four grandchildren. | 10209 |  | Obituary- Teske, Larry Larry D. Teske Larry D. Teske, 53, St. Marys, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000, in the emergency room of St. Marys Hospital. He was born May 26, 1947, in Onaga, the son of Lawrence A. and Vera Bernadine Cameron Teske. He grew up in the Delia community and was graduated from Delia High School in 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1966-1970 as a radar man aboard the U.S.S. Independence. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka for 35 years in the powerhouse and had just become a supervisor for that department He was a member of Local #235 in Topeka, where he was the business manager from 1974 until 1986. Larry drew house plans and had been a general c cm tractor in the St. Marys area for several years. He served on the St. Marys City Commission from 1976 until 1979 and again from 1987 until 1990, and had served as mayor during both of those terms. He was a board member of the St Marys Historical Society since 1983. He had been a member of the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce and was president in 1993. He served on the St. Marys Housing Authority Board from 1990-1992 and had served as president. He was a past member and past president of the St. Marys Jaycees. He coached softball for many years in St. Marys and Topeka. Larry was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 657, both in St. Marys. On May 27, 1967, he married Patricia Allen in Delia. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Deana Trawny, Marshalltown, IA, and Lynn Teske, of the home; two sisters, JuDee Turner, St. Marys, and Charla Diederich, Maple Hill. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Friday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was born July 29, 1912, near Wheaton, the son of Otto and Ida Brunkow Teske. He spent most of his life in the Onaga and Delia communi¬ties. He was a farmer and worked for Union Pacific Railroad before he retired. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rossville. He was married to Bernadine Cameron April 24, 1938. She died May 4, 1992. Surviving are two daughters, JuDee Turner and Charla Freel, both in St. Marys; a son, Larry Teske, St. Marys; a sister, Edna Wieters, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a brother, Franklin Teske, Onaga; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Rossville. Burial will be in Delia Cemetery. Mr. Teske was a farmer and retired Union Pacific Railroad worker. He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church. He was born July 29, 1912, west of Onaga near Wheaton, the son of Otto and Ida Brunkow Teske. Mr. Teske was married to Bernadine Cameron April 24, 1938. They lived most of their lives in the Onaga and Delia areas. Bernadine died May 4, 1992. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister and four brothers, Arnold Teske, Roland Teske, Irwin Teske, and Glenn Teske. He is survived by two daughters, JuDee Turner and Charla Freel, both of St. Marys; one son, Larry Teske, St. Marys; a sister, Edna Wieters, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; a brother, Franklin Teske, Onaga; and three grandchildren. Funeral service was held Wednesday at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Delia Cemetery. Teske, 62, passed away late Friday, July 2, 2010, at the Kansas City Hospice House following a seven-year battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1948, at Topeka, the daughter of Raymond and Zita (Hanrahan) Allen. Patricia was raised by her grandmother Mary Hanrahan at Delia, where she attended school and graduated from Delia High School in 1966. Patricia worked for Hallmark Cards in Topeka after she graduated from high school. After she and her husband Larry settled in St. Marys, she worked for Continental Telephone Co. as a Service Rep. from 1970 until the company closed in 1982. She continued to work in the St. Marys and Rossville area and ended her working career as Librarian at the Pottawatomie-Wabaunsee Regional Library in St. Marys. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Patricia also was a past board member of the St. Marys Historical Society and Life Member and member of the Kaw Better Homes FCE. She served a few years as secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. Patricia was married to her high school sweetheart, Larry D. Teske, in Delia on May 27, 1967, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Deana Inman, Marshalltown, IA, and Lynn (Shane) Houston, Overland Park; a sister, Mary (Jim) Wolcott, Richland, IA; grandchildren, Noah and Liam Houston, Overland Park; step-grandchildren, Michael and Isaac Houston, Maple Hill. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys. She died in 1970. She was born June 28, 1917, in Louisville, the daughter of Charles E. and Florence Ella Taylor Cameron. She graduated from Havensville rural and high schools and attended Kansas State College. Mrs. Teske was a member of Pottawatomie United Methodist Church in rural Jackson County. She was married to Lawrence A. Teske on April 24, 1938, in Wheaton. He survives. Other survivors include a son, Larry D. Teske, St. Marys; two daughters, JuDee Turner, and Charla Friel, both of St. Marys; a sister, Gail Edwards, Council Grove; and three grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Marys United Methodist Church. Mrs. Teske will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday (this afternoon) at Verschelden Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Teske taught in rural Pottawatomie County schools before she was married. She was born June 28, 1917, north of Louisville in Union Township, Pot-tawatomie County, the daughter of Charles E. and Florence Ella Taylor Cameron. She was graduated from Havensville Rural High School and attended Kansas State Agricultural College at Manhattan. She lived in the Delia area since 1951. Mrs. Teske was a member of the Potawatomi United Methodist Church near Mayetta in Jackson County. She was married to Lawrence A. Teske April 24, 1938, at Wheaton. He survives. Other survivors include two daugh-ters, JuDee Turner and Charla Freel, both of St. Marys; a son, Larry D. Teske, St. Marys; a sister, Gail Edwards, Council Grove; and three grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Delia Cemetery. Mrs. Teske will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys where family and friends will meet from 7 until 8 p.m. today. | 10217 |  | Obituary- Tetlow, Steven 1 Steven Chester Tetlow Steven Chester Tetlow, 51, St. Marys, formerly of Troy, Kan., passed away unexpectedly at his home Wednesday, April 13. He was born Jan. 9, 1960, in Junction City, Kan., to Max and Darlene Tetlow, the youngest of three children. With his family he moved to Troy from Arcanum, Ohio, in 1966. Steve attended Troy Grade School and was a 1978 Troy High School graduate, where cross country running was a passion of his. He also played high school basketball and was a member of the school band and school newspaper staff. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Journalism from Kansas State University in 1982. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity where he served as social chairman and publicity director. He also worked on the reporting staff of the K-State Collegian while attending Kansas State University. Steve married Ranae Hornick Akers, July 6,1991, in Troy. Ryan and Shane Akers made their family complete. Steve was a loving step-father and husband, loved his family, was passionate about community and loved the small town atmosphere. An entrepreneur he was. Soon after graduation from K-State, Steve purchased the 126-year-old weekly newspaper, The Kansas Chief, in Troy, where he became the youngest newspaper publisher-owner in the state. He published the paper for 17 years, where he wrote a weekly column called Chiefly Speaking. Feeling an urge for something more, in 1995 Ranae and Steve purchased the Green Acres agricultural publication in Lancaster, Kan. He later sold the Chief in 1999 and Green Acres in 2001. | |

Daily World before moving to Missouri in 2002 where the couple purchased an embroidery business and a Fed Ex route in Springfield, Mo. Steve was anxious to pursue the publishing business once more when he returned to Troy in 2004 and a year later Steve and Ranae purchased The St. Marys (Kan.) Star. Steve, a master of dry comments, was ready once again to write a column, creatively named STARvations - " Mediocre meanderings from the malnourished mind" - a popular commentary on current events, a collection of Steve's quips and his thoughts on his alma mater, K-State. He was also a member of the Kansas Press Association. Steve is survived by his wife Ranae of the home; step-sons Ryan Akers and his wife Alyssa of Westwood, Kan., and Shane Akers and his fiance Kari Shaw of Robbinsdale, Minn.; sisters Lynda Hurt and husband Steve of Mission, Kan., and Susan Day and husband Jim of Las Vegas, Nev.; nieces and nephews Laura, Christopher, Katherine and Steven Day, Wesley and Whitney Willard, and Bradley and Jeffrey Means. He was preceded in death by his parents Max and Darlene Tetlow; grandparents Chet and Leona Tetlow and George Wilbur and Alta Mae Cunningham. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 17, at Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys. A visitation will be held one hour before the service. She was born January 25,1917 at Delia, the daughter of Emil and Mary VandeVelde Mattan. She had lived in the Rossville community since 1947. She grew up at Delia. Liz and her husband farmed at Emmett until moving to Rossville. She had worked for the IGA Store in Rossville many years. Mrs. Tholl was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and the Altar Society at the church. She was a past member of the Emmett Jolly Workers Club. She had been a volunteer at Lets Help in Topeka. On November 21, 1935 she was married to Eugene F. Tholl at Holy Cross Catholic in Emmett. He died May 14,1972. Surviving her are two daughters, Mary Moylan, Council Grove and Betty Marney, Rossville; two sisters, Louise VanDeWoestyne, Geneseo, IL. and Mary Cowan, Silver Lake; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was born Jan. 25, 1917, at Delia, the daughter of Emil and Mary VandeVelde Mattan. She had lived in the Rossville community since 1947. She grew up at Delia. Liz and her husband farmed at Emmett until moving to Rossville. She had worked for the IGA Store in Rossville many years. Mrs. Tholl was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville and the Altar Society at the church. She was a past member of the Emmett Jolly Workers Club. She had been a volunteer at Lets Help in Topeka. On Nov. 21,1935, she was married to Eugene F. Tholl at Holy Cross Catholic in Emmett. He died May 14,1972. Surviving her are two daughters, Mary Moylan, Council Grove and Betty Marney, Rossville; two sisters, Louise VanDeWoestyne, Geneseo, Ill. and Mary Cowan, Silver Lake; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and seven great- great-grandchildren. A prayer vigil was held for Mrs. Tholl on Sunday, July 26, at Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 27, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Mr. Tholl was born Aug. 27, 1887 at Hanover. He farmed all his life. He resided in Emmett until 1962 and had lived in St. Marys since. Mr. Tholl and his wife Liddie celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in February. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sons, Eugene F. Tholl, Rossville, Leo G„ Tholl of Emmett; one sister, Mrs. Katie Schmelzle, Seneca; two brothers, Thomas Tholl, Atchison and Peter Tholl, Topeka; six grand children, and six great-grandchildren. Requiem high mass was sung at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Rosary was recited at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. Tholl of St. Marys was killed Monday afternoon about two miles west of St. Marys when a semitruck hit his tractor on Highway 24. It was reported both were traveling in the same direction, going east, when the accident happened. The truck loaded with wheat overturned in the ditch and the driver escaped injury. Tholl was thrown from the tractor and the lister he was pulling ran over him. | |
| 10224 |  | Obituary- Tholl, Leo and Tholl, Lois Car accident kills couple, 3 others hurt A Maple Hill couple was killed and three persons were hurt in a head-on collision on a county road north of Maple Hill Saturday night, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Leo G. Tholl, 51, and his wife, Lois Tholl, 46, who lived at Emmett many years before they moved to Maple Hill about four months ago, were killed in the crash. The injured were identified as Nathaniel Ray Willingham, 46, and Dennis Bennett, 18, both of Rossville, and Lori Lundin, 17, Route 1, Silver Lake. Willingham suffered a broken pelvis, a broken kneecap, and numerous cuts and was listed in satisfactory condition Sunday by officials at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where he underwent surgery early Sunday. The two teenagers had minor injuries and were not admitted to the hospital. Patrolmen said the 1971 Chevrolet Vega driven by Leo Tholl was southbound and the 1969 Pontiac sedan driven by Willingham was northbound When they collided on the Maple Hill road less than a half-mile north of the Kansas River bridge in Shawnee County. Officers said the Pontiac was left of the center of the road as the driver had pulled out in an apparent attempt to pass a pickup truck. Tholl and his wife, who were en route home after visiting relatives nearby, Were alone in their car. Tholl was a weight officer for the State of Kansas and also worked as a security guard at the Jeffrey Energy Center north of St. Marys. Leo G. Tholl was born May 16, 1926, at Emmett. Mrs. Tholl, the former Lois Joan Blair, was born March 20,1931, in Topeka. They were married May 5, 1949, in Topeka. They were members of the United Methodist Church at Emmett. Their survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Linda J. Heslet, Rossville, Mrs. Roxey Fulmer, Belvue, and Tammie Tholl and Maxine Tholl, both at home; and two grandsons. | 10229 |  | Obituary- Thomas, Charles Frank Charles Thomas Dead Charles F. Thomas aged 53 years died at his home here yesterday morning. The cause of his death was Bright's disease. Mr. Thomas has been confined to his home for several months and his death was not unexpected. Funeral services were held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock, the sermon being preached by Rev. F.S. Eastman of the United Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the Benson cemetery. Charles Frank Thomas was born in Crawfordsville, Ind. February 14, 1861, and while a boy removed with his parents to Kansas where at the age of 19 he was married to Miss Anna Wheeler. To this union three children were born. Jennie, Joseph E., deceased and Robert S. Mr. Thomas had been troubled with Bright's disease for several years and in 1920 removed from Kansas to Washington in the hope that the change of climate would improve his health. He had lived at Everett, Oak Harbor and Puyallup before coming to Prosser about a year ago. Mr. Thomas has been confined to the home since October and the end came peacefully yesterday morning. Mr. Thomas was a loving father, a good husband and a faithful friend and will be greatly missed in the town and community. The family has the sympathy of all. --Prosser Press. Mr. Thomas worked in the store planning division of Fleming Inc. for 26 years before he retired in 1986. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was born June 19, 1928, at Arkansas City, the son of Harvey Randolph and Letha Belle Cauthon Thomas. He had lived in the Silver Lake area since 1957. Mr. Thomas was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville and he attended Silver Lake United Methodist Church. He was married to Bonnie L. DeGraff on June 17, 1952, at Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Charles "Randy” Thomas, Auburn, James Thomas and Steve Thomas, both of Rossville, and Justin Thomas, Andover; two daughters, Jeanie Thomas, Centralia, and Lisa Trammel, Silver Lake; his mother, Letha Thomas, Arkansas City; a brother, Charles Thomas, Mission; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Parker-Price Mortuary at Topeka. Burial with military graveside honors conducted by Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion will be at the Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Thomas will lie in state after 1 p.m. today at the mortuary where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. | |

For Mrs. Williamette Thomas, 62, Enid, who was dead on arrival August 30, 1975 at an Enid hospital. Mrs. Thomas had been ill with cancer for four months. She was born September 15, 1912, in Beloit, Ks. and moved to Rossville with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Navarre, who owned the “Rossville Reporter”, when she was a child. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Manhattan Bible College. She was employed as a teller in an Enid bank. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Enid, the Business Professional Women’s Guild of the church, and was past president of the Enid Business and Professional Women’s Club. She also was a member of the hospital auxiliary at Bass Baptist Memorial Hospital in Enid. She was married to Cecil K. Thomas in 1932 at Valley Falls, Ks. They lived in Topeka several years before moving to Enid in 1944. Mr. Thomas preceded her in death in 1961. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Peggy) Plantamura, West Longbranch, N.J. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid under direction of the Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. Mrs. Joyce Brennan, Rossville, attended the funeral services. | 10247 |  | Obituary- Thompson, Charles E. Charles Thompson February 7, 1938 — June 18, 2021 Charles E. (Ed) Thompson, 83, passed away Friday June 18, 2021, at a Topeka hospital. Ed was born at home in rural Shawnee County on February 7, 1938, to his late parents Charley & Alta Briggs Thompson. Ed was a 1956 graduate of Rossville High School. He worked in partnership with his dad and his brother, Bill, for their family company, Thompson Construction. building ponds and terraces. He then worked for the City of Topeka Street Department and retired from Dover Township after many years of service. Ed loved country western music and formed the band “Ed Thompson and the Rovin Ramblers” with his brother Bill and backup musicians. They performed in most of the dance halls and clubs in the local area for years. He later formed the “Ed Thompson Band”. He is preceded in death by his daughter Lori Jean Thompson Davis, granddaughter Janelle Barber and great-granddaughter Grace Long. He is survived by his wife Carolyn Jeannine Thompson of the home. Other survivors include a brother, William “Bill” Thompson (Dorothy); his son Bernard “Bernie” Thompson, a daughter Tangela Thompson; his stepchildren, Donola Fairbanks (Doug); Debra Sebring (Aaron), Doug Crow (Dusty), and Denise Hersh (Tim); Ed is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She also served as Delia city treasurer and she worked on the election board for many years. She was born Jan. 12,1907, in Delia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Cantor Simecka. She graduated from Delia High School in 1925. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. She married Curtis Alfred Thompson on Sept. 29,1929. He died July 12,1961. Mrs. Thompson also was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Holcomb, on March 25,1969. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Thompson and Nels Thompson, both of Topeka; three daughters, Arlene Looker, Topeka, Vivian Bartello, Marro Bay, Calif., and Neysa Porter, Mason, N.H.: a brother, Ben Simecka, Silver Lake; a sister. Josephine Constant, Topeka; 16 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
